Pilot Killed in Cle Elum Washington Glider Crash

On October 14, 2011, William Weller, 53, was killed when his glider, a DG Flugzeugbau crashed upon take-off in Cle Elum Washington while filming a commercial.  Both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.

The FAA has reported that upon take-off, the glider crashed into trees killing Weller who was  piloting and was the only person aboard.

Many questions remain about the cause(s) of this crash including the fitness of the glider for flight, its maintenance and other possible contributing factors.  The glider is registered to Northwest Eagle Soaring, LLC located in Tukwila, WA.  FAA Reg# is N7760A.
